Sony and Samsung have each released smartphones with excellent screens within the last month. The option is up to the consumer on whether they want the unique curved screen from the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ or the 4K resolution offered from the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

According to Tech Radar, Samsung followed up its unique Galaxy S6 Edge with the large-screened version the Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ retains the curved-edge display but increases the size to 5.7 inches.

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ offers a quality QHD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. Sony really stepped up to create an excellent screen for its Xperia Z5 Premium and its 5.5-inch display. Sony became the first smartphone in the world to achieve the 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution, which makes it a 4K display. As far as pixels per inch (ppi), the Xperia Z5 Premium offers 806, compared to the Galaxy S6 Edge+'s 518. This means a sharper display from Sony and brighter and more colors from Samsung.

As far as design goes, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is lightweight, but wide and tall. This means it could be hard to grip and might be prone to drops. Sony kept its familiar design from the Xperia Z5 and added an oval flag key on the side. This new button serves as the fingerprint sensor. While the Xperia Z5 Premium weighs a little more than the Galaxy S6 Edge+, it adds waterproofing and dust-proofing.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ uses the octa-core Exynos 7420 processor and 4 GB of RAM. It comes with either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage and no microSD slot. The Xperia Z5 Premium uses the older Snapdragon 810 processor and 3 GB of RAM. It comes with 32 GB of internal storage, but it can be expanded up to 200 GB with microSD cards.

With the better screen and the microSD slot, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium looks like the winner in this battle.
