Xbox One vs. PS4 Games, Sales & Comparison: New Remote For Xbox One; What Does It Do?
The Xbox One hasn't enjoyed the same kind of success as its PlayStation 4 counterpart, but Microsoft is at least focusing on what stands out about its new console: It is more than just a video game platform.
In the latest news from the gaming world, Microsoft is releasing a new media remote for its Xbox One in what to many people will seem like a move that might be too little, too late. The new media remote, which is an upgrade from its predecessor on the Xbox 360, is essentially an advanced television remote. It gives you the opportunity to toggle video options and provides you with a guide reminiscent of one you might find on your television remote. Larry Hyrb described and elaborated upon this in a post on Thursday.
"Releasing across Xbox One markets worldwide in early March, the Xbox One Media Remote lets you control video playback for Blu-ray movies and streaming video on Xbox One," he wrote. "Additionally, there are dedicated Back and OneGuide buttons. The OneGuide button provides one-touch, quick access to your favorite TV shows and movies through the Xbox program guide. This remote is designed to help you listen, watch and switch among experiences instantly -- allowing you to rule your entertainment. The Media Remote can also control TV/Receiver power and volume through Kinect, which uses IR blasting to send signals to your TV and/or receiver."
The remote seems like a great way for the Xbox One to stand out from the PlayStation 4 and helps promote the Microsoft platform as much more of a multimedia console than just a simple gaming device. With this being said, the company seems to be struggling mightily in terms of sales when compared to the PlayStation 4, which has permeated the global market much more than the Xbox One has.
What do you think about this remote? Is it just a marketing tool or could it be useful for the consumer? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
