LG Nexus (2015) Release Date & Price Revealed, Google Smartphone To Be Called 'Nexus 5X'
It was revealed in an earlier report that LG's upcoming successor to 2013's Nexus 5 will sport a USB Type-C connector in three color variants.
Other previously known specs of the device include the following:
- 5.2-inch 1080p touchscreen display
- Snapdragon 808 chipset from Qualcomm
- 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage.
- 3 GB of RAM
- 16 GB or 32 GB internal storage.
- 12.3-megapixel rear camera and a five-megapixel selfie shooter
But amid all of these detailed information, the name of the device as well as its price have been left ambiguous over the past weeks. Luckily, a recent report has brought much-needed clarity on the matter.
According sources from Android Authority, the LG device will most likely be called the Nexus 5X while its price range will roughly be $50 more than that of the current-gen Nexus 5.
However, its new alias is more of a strong consideration rather that a foregone certainty since, apparently, Google has not made up its mind. Nonetheless, it is an improvement over LG Nexus 5, Nexus 5 (2015) and second-gen Nexus 5.
Be that as it may, the main takeaway from the latest development is the first mention of the Nexus 5X's prices. Its 16 GB internal memory variant is billed at $399 while its 32 GB model will approximately cost $449.
Google is known to use the Nexus brand as a vehicle to launch the company's latest Android software. It stands to reason that the LG-manufactured Nexus 5X will run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which was proven to improve the battery life of the current-gen Nexus 5.
German tech site Computer Base previously tested the battery lives of an Android Lollipop-backed Nexus 5 and a Nexus 5 that was seeded with the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Results showed that the Android M handset lasted 300 percent longer in juice power than the Lollipop version.
Aside from the Nexus 5X by LG, Google has also tapped Huawei to manufacture a larger Nexus for this year, which is known as the Nexus 6. Its 3D-CAD render was earlier leaked on YouTube by reliable tipster @OnLeaks.
In a previous Latin Post report, the newly christened Nexus 5X will measure 5.2 inches while the Huawei Nexus will be at 5.7 inches. Amid their size disparity, both handsets will have the distinction of being the first pair of devices to run on the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS right out the box.
The two new "pure" Android handsets will be shown off at Google's Sept. 29 press event in San Francisco.
