LeBron James News, Rumors & Free Agency: Will King James Star In Space Jam 2?
The Looney Tunes gang will be joining an NBA player soon for a sequel of the highly popular Space Jam movie. Speculation has begun revolving around which basketball star will take the role Michael Jordan played so well 18 years ago. Not many names were thrown around except for one but now that player refutes the reports that he will be a part of the new movie.
In 1996, the original Space Jam grossed $230 million and brought together the Warner Bros. classics like Bugs Bunny and Tasmanian devil with NBA stars. Aside from Jordan, the movie also featured Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, and Patrick Ewing among others, and they acted alongside Hollywood stars like Danny DeVito and Bill Murray. Whether many NBA players and actors will join the cast of the sequel has not been revealed. However, it has been reported by Deadline Hollywood that LeBron James will be taking over Jordan's role in the film.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the sons of veteran broadcaster Dick Ebersol, Charlie and Willie, will be taking over the project for Warner Bros. Willie Ebersol will write the screenplay, his first, and Charlie will bring his production company, The Company, in to produce the sequel. This is Charlie's first major film deal, having only produced unscripted TV shows like The Moment before. His first film was a critically acclaimed 2006 documentary.
Yet having James be part of the movie is only wishful thinking by the producers. Both Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports report that James's camp has denied any involvement in the Space Jamsequel. Will the producers keep haranguing James to take part of will they look elsewhere? James is already set to work in another film with Kevin Hart -- called Ballers -- in which the latter plays the brother of a famous NBA player portrayed by James. Who do you think should be taking over Jordan's role and what other players should be part of the film? Let us know in the comments section below.
