USA vs Brazil Preview, Predictions, Schedule, Stream, Lineups
The U.S. and Brazil face off in an international friendly that will provide a big chance for the U.S. to measure itself against top competition.
Coming off a solid 2-1 win over Peru, the U.S. looks far more prepared for its Confederations Cup playoff against Mexico than El Tri, which stumbled in a draw with Trinidad and Tobago. Gyasi Zardes was the hero, providing an assist on one goal and creating chances all over the pitch.
"He's a constant outlet. Every time he got on the ball he created something," U.S. forward Jozy Altidore said according to Goal USA. "He turned bad passes into good ones. He never has anything bad to say, he just keeps running. His effort's great. Guys like that, they're invaluable."
Brazil will offer a fine challenge to complete the Americans' preparations. The Brazilian side is coming off a 1-0 win over Costa Rica that featured some controversy, as team captain Neymar sat on the bench to start the contest, something that the Barcelona player was none too pleased about.
"Being benched is not something I'm used to and I'm not willing to get used to it," Neymar said according to ESPN Brasil. "I want to play and I'm always working to be amongst the starting XI."
Brazil has been in erratic form, winning three of its last five; the U.S. has won five of its last eight and looks like it could really match up well with the South American giants in what should be an entertaining clash.
Brazil has a stronghold on this matchup, winning 15 of 17 and losing only one contest against the Americans. That lone defeat came in 1998 during the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Aside from that, it has only been struggle and strife for the Americans against the Selecao.
Prediction: Brazil wins 2-1.
Start Time: Tuesday Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. EDT
Watch it on ESPN 2.
