Jennifer Lopez Instagram & Songs: J-Lo Producing, Starring In 'Shades of Blue'
Actress and singer Jennifer Lopez will be starring in her own television series for NBC. TVLine reports that the network has ordered 13 episodes of Shades of Blue, an hour-long cop drama featuring Lopez as an undercover agent for the FBI.
NBC describes the show as "a complex police series that centers on Harlee McCord (Lopez), a single mother and detective recruited to work undercover for the FBI's anti-corruption task force. Part of a close-knit unit known for its conviction record, Harlee has become compromised by her colleagues -- all of whom also pitch in to help her raise her daughter -- and finds herself faced with the moral dilemma of working against her cop brothers in order to redeem herself."
Lopez will both star in and executive produce the new series, which marks her first major role in a TV drama since 1994's short-lived Second Chances. Lopez's American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest will also produce, along with screenwriter Adi Hasak (3 Days to Kill, From Paris With Love) who will pen the script.
"Whether its producing, acting, singing or any of her other many entrepreneurial activities, Jennifer is an extraordinary talent and life force, and we're delighted to be in business with her and Adi Hasak on this sophisticated show," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. "We're especially excited that Jennifer is returning to her acting roots from such great movies as Out of Sight and we know that she will create this complicated character in a vivid way that will breathe new life into the cop show genre."
Seacrest is also excited about the show, saying the script was "powerful and ambitious" and that he couldn't wait to see Lopez take on the role.
Shades of Blue will begin production in early 2015, and is expected to be on air as soon as Fall of next year. Lopez is currently on television as a judge on the hit singing competition American Idol.
