Defending champion of women's figure skating from South Korea, Yuna Kim, settled for a silver medal at the Sochi Winter Olympics. This result was deemed biased and unfair by the South Korean Olympic Committee. As such, they have launched a protest to the International Skating Union. The Russian skater Adelina Sotnikova took home the gold medal.

Even former World and Olympic figure skating champions believe that Yuna should have won the gold medal as she led in both short and long programs. Kurt Browning from Canada expressed disbelief with how the scores were given in favor of the Russian skater. He questioned how the Russian skater became that good overnight. Her personal best was 18 points behind her Olympic score and that was just a month ago. He believed that Yuna out-skated Sotnikova in all aspects.

Even the 17-year-old Sotnikova was extremely surprised that she won. According to her, she did not expect it. Two years ago, her competitions were very bad. Now, she knows she has what it takes to win. Even her coach was totally surprised. She also expressed her gratitude to everyone, including her coach who helped her throughout the competition.

According to the Olympic Committee spokesman, Mark Adams, the protest is now in the hands of ISU. However, he does not see any possibility of the scores being overturned in favor of Yuna. In the latest statement issued by the ISU, they expressed their confidence in the judging system in place. They also said that they are yet to receive any formal complaints when in fact it should have been launched right after the game. They also said that the judges were chosen at random from a pool of 13 judges from all over the world.

Aside from Yuna's case, there were also other cases in which protests have been launched during the Sochi Olympics. There were also conspiracy issues regarding Russia and U.S. helping each other out in certain events to ensure victory over other countries. As for the results of the South Korean protest, it might take a while before decisions can be made.
