'Destiny' Gameplay Update: New Level Cap, Bounty System & More Patch 2.0 Details Unveiled
"Destiny" Year Two is officially upon us, and what better way to kick start the new era than with a host of new gameplay enhancements via Bungie's Patch 2.0.
Bungie previously stated on their official website that the new patch will include "Mercy Rule." The rule will implement better multiplayer results by identifying highly imbalanced matches and terminate them immediately. Of course, the over-powered victor will receive rewards while players facing superior foes will be given incentives for not quitting on the match.
"When the Mercy Rule hits, Shaxx will call out the end of the match. We immediately disable join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to 10 seconds. After those 10 seconds, the match will end normally. All players will receive their end of match rewards and return to matchmaking," senior game designer Andrew Weldon explained.
Now, a gaming website has revealed more details on Patch 2.0.
"Players can expect to see adjustments made to their characters, classes, weapons, weapon perks, activities, bounties, the Tower, and the Crucible," Game Rant noted.
For starters, the game's level cap has increased to 34 for all characters. Character Level and Light are now separate stats. Light stats will be determined by the average Attack and Defense scores of all player gears, which include weapons, ghosts, class items and artifacts.
"Attack Power" values on weapons and gears have also been reset in anticipation for "The Taken King" expansion pack. The incumbent 365 Attack is now back to 170 Attack. The same goes for "Defense" values.
Moving on to how the new patch will affect the game's bounty system, the update increases the bounty slot size to 16. Unfinished Year One bounties are auto-abandoned to make way for "The Taken King," including Eris Year One bounties.
Meanwhile, incomplete Year One exotic bounties are auto-completed. Furthermore, the update lets players track their bounties through the new "Progress UI" in Nav Mode. Bounties are now also turned in for completion reward through the new "Quest Screen".
The "Quest Screen" lets players view all active Quests directly from the Menu interface. Each quest now has its own details screen that describes the current and previous quest steps.
A patch wouldn't be complete without fixes, and Bungie's Patch 2.0 isn't lacking in that department.
It carries a fix for the "Servitor Bonds Weakened" buff issue where it did not clear when Skolas is pushed into phase 2. It also has a fix for both the web mine FX extension and "Hildian Seeker" reward issues.
"Destiny: The Taken King" will be available on Sept. 15.
