The Philadelphia Eagles and starting quarterback Sam Bradford have halted their contract extension talks, according to ESPN. The report said that Bradford's good preseason performances changed the tone of the negotiations.

The Eagles thought that Bradford demanded too much for an additional one or two years after going 10 for 10 with three touchdowns in his final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Bradford seemed comfortable executing coach Chip Kelly's offense.

In an earlier report by ESPN, the Eagles tried signing the 27-year-old QB to a short-term extension because he made some initial impressions in their training camp. He won the starting quarterback spot over Mark Sanchez.

Chip Kelly recognized Bradford's potential even with his scary injury history. He even compared Bradford to two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. Kelly said, "Peyton Manning switched teams because of an injury. Drew Brees switched teams because of an injury. So we went down that path."

Manning was out for the entire 2011 due to a spinal injury but signed with the Denver Broncos in 2012 after 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Brees injured his shoulder in 2006 while with the San Diego Chargers, before signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Bradford has torn his left anterior cruciate ligament in his last two seasons with the St. Louis Rams as reported by FanSided. This might be the cause of concern for the Eagles to give the quarterback a longer and more lucrative contract.

In a report by NJ.com, the Eagles are considering giving Bradford $30 million of guaranteed money because of the contracts given out in the entire league to quarterbacks. Bradford is banking on his health that if he plays well most of the season and avoids major injuries, he could be in line for a big contract in free agency.

The Eagles acquired Bradford in a trade with the Rams, sending their starting quarterback Nick Foles and a 2016 second round pick as reported by ESPN. Bradford is set to make $12.95 million this season while Foles received a two-year, $22-million contract from the Rams, according to FanSided.

Sam Bradford was drafted first overall by the Rams in 2010 and won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in the same year as per football.com. He also won the Heisman Trophy in his sophomore season while with the University of Oklahoma. He has the NFL record for most consecutive passes without an interception by a rookie quarterback with 169 and most completions by a rookie quarterback with 354.
