Australian actor Sam Worthington who made a household name for being the lead star in James Cameron's "Avatar" is making a lot of buzz after having punched a paparazzi.

The NYPD reports allegedly stated that the Hollywood star punched the paparazzi right outside of Benny's Burritos located in New York City. Further details of the story include the part when the guy allegedly kicked Lara Bingle's shin, who is the girlfriend of Sam.

According to the restaurant manager, the two were bloody after the commotion and they presented their injuries to the police authorities, E! News wrote.

After the chaotic incident, the 37-year-old Aussie actor was arrested for assault charges while the paparazzi named as Sheng Li was also charged with harassment, assault and even reckless endangerment. The actor was released on bail but is required to get back to court at a different date. He was given a desk appearance ticket before his release while the 37-year-old photographer was still held for arraignment, CNN wrote. It turned out that the paparazzi did not bear any reliable press credentials. The only good thing that happened is that no one got hospitalized.

Last month, the celebrity couple was even seen wearing rings that matched while in London.

Sam Worthington was raised in Australia but actually born in England. It was in the land of Down Under where he started his acting career. Aside from his hit movie "Avatar," he also had several other movies in his acting resume including "Terminator Salvation," "Clash of the Titans," and "Man on a Ledge" among his most popular films. In 2009, he was also hailed as GQ Man of the Year in Australia.

On a more interesting note by Daily Mail UK, it was reported that the 37-year-old actor referred to Lara Bingle as his wife before the altercation happened. Could this mean that the rumor of two having tied the knot in secret is true?
