EuroBasket 2015 Scores & Highlights: Spain Eliminate Germany as France, Serbia Sweep Group [Watch]
Spain dodged elimination after winning in their final group game, while France, Greece, Serbia swept their preliminary round assignments in EuroBasket 2015.
Spain 77 - 76 Germany
Spain claimed a ticket to the knockout phase after escaping with a 77-76 win against Germany in a nail-biting game inside the jam-packed Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.
Spain overcame a late rally and needed some luck in the final play of the game to avoid elimination.
Sergio Rodriguez knocked down a three-pointer in the 1:50 mark of the fourth period to give Spain a 73-66 lead, but Dirk Nowitzki and Maodo Lo answered with two three-pointers to trim the lead down to one 73-72.
Sergio Llull made it a three-point game for Spain with two free-throw conversions. Germany star guard Dennis Schroder was fouled taking a three-pointer. He had a chance to force an extra period but missed his third free throw, allowing Spain to escape with the win.
Rodriguez led Spain in scoring with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, while veteran Pau Gasol posted 16 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists and three blocks.
With the win, Spain did not just avoid elimination as they also finished second in the group because of superior quotient over Italy and Turkey, who also ended up with a 3-2 record.
Serbia 91 - 72 Turkey
Serbia finished on top of Group B after completing a sweep of their preliminary round games as they ran away with a 91-72 win against Turkey in Berlin.
Miroslav Raduljica finished with 20 points and six rebounds, while Milos Teodosic posted 17 points and 13 assists for Serbia, who will take on Finland in the next round.
France 74 - 67 Russia
France also ended the group stage with a 5-0 card after scoring an impressive 74-67 win over Russia in Montpellier.
Nando De Colo led France with 13 points, while EuroBasket all-time leading scorer Tony Parker and center Rudy Gobert finished with 12 points apiece with the latter tallying 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Greece 68 - 65 Netherlands
Greece finished on top of Group C with a hard-earned 68-65 win against Netherlands in Zagreb, Croatia.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had a double-double performance for Greece with 11 points and 11 rebounds, helping his team sweep all five preliminary round games to end up on top of Group C.
Netherlands had a chance to advance to the knockout stage, but the loss on Thursday ended their EuroBasket 2015 campaign after finishing with a 1-4 record.
