Apple iPhone 6s vs Android Phones: Android Already Had Most of the iPhone 6s Features
Apple was excited to show off the iPhone 6s Wednesday at a special press event. The highlights of the introduction included new 3D Touch technology, an improved camera and a quick way to take selfies.
According to Greenbot, Android has had most of these features for quite some time though.
Apple announced a pressure-sensitive technology and is calling it 3D Touch. However, going all the way back to Android 2.0 (Android Eclair), this pressure-sensitive technology has been available for Android phones. The technology remains available in Android 5.0 (Android Lollipop).
Android is not really using the pressure-sensitive technology to its advantage though. The only phone that is actually using it and marketing it is the Huawei Mate S, which was just announced at IFA 2015 in Berlin. Huawei calls their technology Force Touch, but it is not as advanced as Apple's 3D Touch.
In the iPhone 6s, users can use 3D Touch to take a faster selfie. To get a selfie is actually a multi-step process, requiring users to hard tap on the camera and then select the front-facing camera from the drop down menu.
Android has a faster selfie process. The Sony Xperia and the Samsung Galaxy Active devices already have dedicated hardware buttons on the sides of the phones that quickly launch their cameras. The latest Galaxy S6 devices and the Note 5 have a Quick Launch feature, which requires just two taps on the home button to get access to the camera. By leaving the camera in the front-facing mode for next time, users will be able to quickly take a selfie. The OnePlus 2 home button can also be programmed this way.
Apple announced the "Hey Siri" command, which wakes up the voice assistant whenever needed. Android has provided "OK Google" since the introduction of Android 5.0. It took a while for Apple to catch up on this feature.
Apple finally upgraded its camera to a 12 megapixel (MP) sensor, but Android already has phones with 16 MP or more. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the LG G4 are both 16 MP and Sony offers some Android phones that are 20 MP or greater.
With its new smaller A9 processor, the iPhone 6s promises faster speeds and more efficient battery use. This processor actually just follows what Qualcomm and Samsung have already done with Android processors, the Snapdragon and Exynos chips.
