Delta State University Shooting: Professor Killed in Campus Shooting
A professor at Delta State University has been killed after a shooter was found on campus.
Delta State University is on lockdown after a shooting was reported on campus, leaving one professor dead, according to NBC News. According to the Delta State University Twitter account, they are urging everyone on campus to stay inside:
The victim has been identified as 50-year old professor Ethan Schmidt. Schmidt was married for nearly 17 years and had two daughters. He was killed at his office located at Jobe Hall.
The shooter is connected to a murder that happened earlier today in Gautier, Mississippi. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Shannon Lamb, who was also an employee at Delta State.
The entire campus is in complete lockdown after the shooting and it is unknown if the shooter is still on campus. Delta State is home to 4,000 students and is located in Cleveland, Mississippi.
A student posted a video of someone barricading a classroom just in case the shooter started shooting again:
The identity of the shooter and his motives are unknown. Police are searching the campus as a precaution.
