Japanese video game developer Square Enix has announced that the PC version of Final Fantasy V is coming to Steam on Sept. 24 to commemorate the game's 23rd anniversary.

The video game's PC version will feature character and graphics upgrades by designer Kazuko Shibuya, along with enhanced controls and an optimized "active-time battle system," reports PC Gamer.

Players can expect new content that includes Enuo, an optional boss, created by designer Tetsuya Nomura, along with The Sealed Temple, which is a dungeon that appeared in the 2006 version for the Game Boy Advance, and its soundtrack.

The Final Fantasy V PC version includes significant art changes to the character sprites and overall ambiance. While the new graphics will be visually appealing to players, nostalgic gamers may not like the sprite art changes.

"Experience complete freedom in character customization with an engaging Job and Ability System that lets you mix and match to your heart's content," Square Enix says in the game trailer.

PC gamers will be able to use the oracle, gladiator, cannoneer and necromancer class add-ons.

The system requirements to play Final Fantasy 5 for PC are Windows Vista 32-bit, a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 2GB RAM, and DirectX 10, according to PC Gamer.

Final Fantasy V will be available for purchase on Steam Sept. 24 at a retail price of $16, but can be pre-ordered for $14.39 -- a 10 percent discount.

Final Fantasy V, a medieval-fantasy role-playing video game, debuted in 1992 as part of the Final Fantasy game franchise, developed and published by Square Enix. The game was initially released in Japan on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but later was ported to Sony's PlayStation and Nintendo's Game Boy Advance.

The game's story begins as a wanderer named Bartz discovers a fallen meteor with four Crystals. At the meteor, he meets the characters Lenna, Faris, Galuf and Krile. One of the characters tells Bartz that the four Crystals control the world's elements and imprison Exdeath, an evil sorcerer. Bartz and his comrades are tasked with stopping Exdeath's exploitation of the Crystals and preventing his resurgence.
