Rob Marshall will remake the classic film "Mary Poppins" for Disney.

As Disney continues its trend to reboot and remake old animated films, the company will attempt its older live action films. According to Variety, Disney is developing the musical with Marshall, who directed the Oscar-nominated "Into the Woods."

The source also stated that "Into the Woods" producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt will serve as producers for "Mary Poppins."

According to insiders, the new adaptation will take place in London 20 years after the first film. Additionally, it will take storylines from the P.L. Travers' children books focusing on the magical nanny's continued adventures with the Banks family.

The original film, which was released in 1964, starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke and was a huge hit. The movie made $100 million at the box office and won five Oscars, including one for Andrews as best actress.

Disney has already adapted "Alice in Wonderland," "Beauty and the Beast," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella" into live action hits. They also made "The Wizard of Oz" spin-off entitled "Oz: the Great and Powerful." All the films have raked up more than $200 million and have become international successes. The company already has "Dumbo," "Aladdin," "The Jungle Book" and an "Alice in Wonderland" sequel lined up for the next few years.

Marshall's "Chicago" won the Oscar for Best Picture back in 2002 and since then the auteur has directed a number of films including "Memoirs of a Geisha." However, he has specialized in musicals including "Nine" starring Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren. He recently directed "Into the Woods," which obtained Meryl Streep her 19th Oscar nomination.

No date has been set on the new "Mary Poppins" but knowing Disney, the film will have a date scheduled very soon.
