As reported by 12th Man Rising, Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor is unhappy with the four-year, $28 million deal he signed in 2013 and would want to re-negotiate the contract terms. But the Seahawks are anxious to give him a revised deal because they might set a bad example to the NFL as players around the league will probably begin asking for new and revised contracts.

ESPN stats show that the 2013 Super Bowl champions lost their opening season game against the St. Louis Rams, 34-31 in overtime. Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that Chancellor's absence was noticeable against the Rams as quarterback Nick Foles had 297 passing yards, including 87 yards to tight end Jared Cook.

Chancellor's replacement Dion Bailey made a big mistake late in the game as he allowed Nick Foles to find tight end Lance Kendricks for a 37-yard score to tie the game at 31 with 53 seconds left in regulation.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said after the game that his players did not discuss about Chancellor in the locker room. "No, I don't see the players talking about it at all. I mean, it's pretty obvious, you know? He's a terrific football player and a big part of our team. But it's the facts, we don't have him, so we just have to go with it. But I don't think that that goes away. It's a pretty obvious media opportunity, so they're going to keep going to it," Carroll said.

In a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Seahawks and Chancellor are close to a new deal for 2016. The Seahawks are reportedly offering $8.1 million but the 27-year-old's camp wants a $9 million deal. According to a separate report by Seattle Post-Intelligencer, another barrier in the discussion is the fines from a month and a half absence that totals to $1.87 million, per NBC Sports.

Only a few people have spoken about the situation including former Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson as well as former player and current ESPN analyst Ray Lewis. Robinson said on NFL Network's "GameDayFirst" that Chancellor is the face of the Seahawks franchise.

"He's the face of this team, he's the guy they all go to. So I think he'll be sorely missed," Robinson said.

Lewis, on the other hand, thinks that Chancellor should be paid but he would never leave his "brothers" in the field. He said, via "The Stephen A. Smith Show" as quoted by Field Gulls, "I love Kam Chancellor. Do I think he should be paid? Absolutely. I'm always for the players when it comes to that. But I am also for the players when it comes to the other side too."

"I would never leave my brothers in battle. Never. Not over money," Lewis added.
