Users are reporting issues when they try to update to Apple's latest mobile operating system iOS 9, 9to5 Mac reports.

When users try to update to iOS 9 they are receiving error messages that say the "software update failed." Even developers who were already using the iOS 9 GM seed, which was released last week, are seeing this message and unable to update to the full version of iOS 9.

It is likely that the issues that users are experiencing are due to server overload. As demand for the update to iOS 9 dies down, users should be able to download their update without seeing these error messages.

Some users are still seeing that they are on iOS 8.4.1 and are unable to update to iOS 9. A potential work-around for this error is to reboot the iPhone and go into settings and check for a software update. If the iOS 9 update is available, it will show up in the software update menu.

Users who were able to install iOS 9 have been running into annoying bugs. Users are reporting their issues on the Mac Rumors forums. They are reporting WiFi drops, a hidden Airplane mode switch in the settings app and visual search errors.

Apple just started allowing regular users to participate in the beta program to get early access to iOS 9. They helped Apple identify errors, bugs and provided feedback with their experiences prior to the full release of iOS 9. Some of these bugs reported by beta users are still appearing in the full version of iOS 9.

Apple is already hard at work on iOS 9.1, which will hopefully eliminate some of these annoying bugs. For users stuck on iOS 8.4.1, they are advised to back up all their data to iTunes or iCloud prior to installing the upgrade to iOS 9 to ensure no data, apps or files are lost.
