Amazon Fire Tablets: New $50 Tablets Offered in 6-Packs For Just $250
A brand new iPad cannot be purchased for $250, but six brand new Amazon tablets can. With Amazon's introduction of the $50 Amazon Fire tablet, a new six-pack deal will also be offered, Geek Wire reports.
Amazon unveiled the new $50 Fire tablet Thursday. The tablets were first spotted at a secret press event Wednesday at a home in San Francisco where only select reporters were invited.
The new Amazon Fire will not have impressive specifications, but the company is calling it a solid entry-level tablet. The tablet will have a 1.3 GHz processor and a 1,024 x 600 pixels resolution.
The tablet is so affordable that it can be purchased in a six-pack for $249.99. At $50 a piece, this means that buyers taking advantage of this deal are actually getting six tablets for the price of five.
Amazon says the six-pack deal is limited-time promotion and the promo code of FIRE6PACK when checking out at Amazon.com. Six Amazon Fire devices must be in the buyer's carts for the deal to work. Customers will be limited to one six-pack offer.
Amazon's strategy with their hardware is to get users to buy more products with their devices. The Amazon Fire Phone was a poor seller and was a high priced device. The budget tablets will align better with Amazon's strategy of making money on additional purchases and services with their tablets, instead of the actual sale of the tablets.
"We want to make money when people use our devices, not when they buy our devices," Bezos explained at a 2012 event, describing the philosophy as the "Amazon Doctrine."
The new $50 Fire tablets will be expandable up to 128 GB for storage with microSD cards. They will also have both front and rear-facing cameras.
The six-pack deal might not last long, so buyers interested in some cheap holiday gifts should act now.
