PS4 vs Xbox One: 'Wolfenstein: The New Order' Runs on 1080p for Both Consoles
While most games run below 1080p on Microsoft's game console, the MachineGames title is confirmed to run 1080p for both the PS4 and the Xbox One.
Microsoft's current gen console has been issued to have difficulties in running several titles on the supposedly standard 1080p resolution. Titles that don't make the 1080p mark include Thief running on 900p, Call of Duty: Ghosts on 720p, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes also running on 720p, Ryse: Son of Rome and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, among others, notes GameSpot.
Now, Bethesda has confirmed that Wolfenstein: The New Order will run on the 1080p benchmark on the Xbox One. "The Xbox One version of Wolfenstein will run at 1080p/60 fps," the Bethesda PR said in an email statement to GamingBolt.
The confirmation comes after the MachineGames title was confirmed to run 1080p 60fps on Sony's game console, with GamingBolt emailing the Rockville publisher.
However, CinemaBlend notes that the email did not indicate whether the 1080p resolution was native or upscaled. "It may seem like nitpicking, but if the game goes for 1080p at 60fps at lower texture resolution, cardboard cutout backgrounds or anything to free up the eSRAM to hit 1080p - it kind of seems to work against the point of hitting 1080p for a supposed "next-gen" console," CinemaBlend remarks.
"Wolfenstein: The New Order pits players against seemingly insurmountable odds in a skewed 1960′s where the Nazis conquered the world. An FPS that's old-school in all the best ways, it eschews modern niceties - no recharging shields here - in favor of merciless, finely honed shooting," an SCEA Social Media Specialist describes the upcoming game in the PlayStation blog.
The old-school game is reportedly made by Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness developers, notes a NEOGAF forum post. There will be no multiplayer, but there will be a tech tree, gibs, dual snipers for B.J. and fights with Nazis on the moon, the post adds.
Wolfenstein: The New Order comes out May 20 in the US for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC, says GamingBolt.
