HBO Girls Season 3: Lena Dunham Does NOT Confirm Adam Driver's Star Wars Episode 7 Movie Role
Adam Driver has not officially been announced as a cast member in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII movie, but one of his Girls co-stars is already very excited.
According to Variety sources, Driver has been selected to play Darth Vader. Variety reports that the deal is not "done yet," but Driver is close to signing a contract. The 30-year-old actor has long been a rumored contender for the role. Sources say that the delayed decision is a result of Driver's scheduling conflicts playing Adam in the HBO series Girls. The show is currently in season 3, and future seasons were reportedly a concern.
The news has not been made official yet, but Lena Dunham, Girls co-star and creator, has already taken to social media to congratulate her friend.
"We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?" Dunham said via Twitter.
Some news outlets have taken Dunham's tweet as a sign that the Driver will definitely play Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode VII. The 27-year-old actress, however, has clarified that she is getting her information through the grapevine just like everyone else.
"I confirm nothing bc I know nothing bc I'm on a plane with my dad! I just like Adam more than almost anyone, and JJ Abrams a whole lot too," Dunham explained with another tweet.
Just because Driver is not the absolute next Darth Vader does not mean that Dunham cannot get in the Star Wars spirit.
"Arm Rest Wars: a trilogy about my father and me on this plane that also stars Lamby and a bag of nuts. I'm dumb," Dunham tweeted.
If Driver is indeed playing Darth Vader, he will represent the first official cast member of the Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm film. The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams and begins filming in April at London's Pinewood Studios. Bryan Burk and Kathleen Kennedy will produce.
Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
