'The Witness' Might Just be Your Next Gaming Fixation: Here's Everything We Know So Far
In a recent interview with Jonathan Blow, developer of the "Braid," he revealed what he went through in order to complete the ambitious project now entitled "The Witness."
According to Polygon, Blow primarily announced that the next project will launch on Christmas of 2011, which did not happen. However, five years later after the committed date, Blow is again appealing to the fans to keep an eye of the new project while subsequently detailing every aspect of the game's development.
In his statement, he said "I thought it was going to be much smaller game at the time, so when I announced it, I said 'coming Christmas of 2011,' now it's six and a half years later."
At the time, he was very apprehensive announcing something that will take two years to develop, but he thought the timing couldn't be better after the success of the "Braid." It turns out; it was harder than he expected it to be.
Although currently sitting on its developmental stage, "The Witness" is actually on the verge of completion. It offers several hours of puzzles that surprisingly remains very interesting as the challenges deepens. According to Wired, "The Witness" is about "communication, understanding the world that involves conversations without saying a word."
The game's concept promotes concentration and because it requires a player to solve puzzles, the actually has no background music and skin themes, all there is to it is the game's ability to encourage the player to solve the challenges in a quiet manner.
The 3D puzzle game is set in an open world setting and offers roughly around 25 hours of game play. A source, who receives partial build of the play, claims that despite having played most of The Witness' portions, he felt like he was just starting. "The Witness" has a game concept of using lines along grids in order to solve a specific puzzle. A player needs a quick and analytical mind in order to finish a puzzle.
"The Witness" is coming on Jan. 26, 2016 and when asked why it took so long to develop and release the game, Blow answered, "Because it's big, and we're a small team."
The game consists of several sections, each section providing several difficult challenges that a player must go through in order to eventually reach the location's "central mountain." Every section is connected to each other, giving you the next clue on how to conquer the next one.
"The Witness" will be available on platforms PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows and iOS.
