AMC Game of Arms Ratings and Review: AMC Arm Wrestling Show Sets Viewing Record [Trailer]
Game of Arms, a new reality show on AMC, became an instant hit after raking in a huge audience share during its premier on Tuesday. The amount of viewers broke records and was considered to be the network's highest-rated unscripted series. A total of 1 million viewers watched the pilot episode with over 626,000 of them in the 18 to 49 age brackets, which is what advertisers wanted.
The reality show takes a peek at what really happens in the cut-throat world of underground arm wrestling. The show was conceptualized by Matt Renner and Ethan Prochnik, the people behind another reality show Deadliest Catch. The show's executive producer is Dan Ilani. The work of these three men impressed the president of the AMC network Charlie Collier; according to Collier, he loves how the show provides attention to details and also shows commitment to high quality storytelling. He says that he is looking forward to the upcoming episodes of the show.
The first episode presented a really intense arm wrestling fight between two contestants. It presented how the contestants, who take the sport of arm wrestling very seriously, prepared for the competition up until the match itself. One of the contestants was quoted as saying, "There's nothing like the feeling 30 seconds before I put my arm on the table." He said that he was proud to be a professional arm wrestler and the grueling preparations of the contestants leading up to the actual competition revealed just how much effort they put into their trade.
Besides just being about arm wrestling battles, the show also depicts positive values such as a strong brotherhood and friendship among the members of the club and how the competitor's training impacted their family lives. Most of all, it showed how much pride is at stake, especially right after defeating an opponent in a grueling arm wrestling match.
