Marvel Ant Man Movie Cast and Release Date: Patrick Wilson to Star Alongside Paul Rudd and Michael Douglass
As superhero fans everywhere prepare for the return of the Avengers, Marvel Studios is finishing up casting for one of its smaller productions.
Deadline reports that Patrick Wilson, who recently starred in the horror flicks The Conjuring and Insidious, is in talks to join the cast of Marvel's Ant Man.
Wilson will star alongside actors Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, as well as Michael Pena and Evangeline Lilly. Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script, is slated to direct.
It is unspecified what role Wilson will take on. Some fans speculate that he will play the movie's antagonist, but many of the plot's details remain secret.
Marvel's Ant Man will tell the story of scientist Hank Pym (Douglas) and his successor Scott Lang (Rudd). Pym is responsible for the technology that lets Ant Man shrink down to miniscule size and communicate with insects. When thief Lang stumbles upon this, he reforms his ways and takes up the mantle of Ant Man.
Edgar Wright, who is mostly known for his comedies i.e. Hot Fuzz and At World's End, was approached about making the film very early on, before Iron Man had even hit the big screen. He says that the movie will be an action adventure movie primarily, but with comedic elements.
"The thing I like about Ant-Man is that it's not like a secret power, there's no supernatural element or it's not a genetic thing," said Wright at the 2006 San Diego Comic Con. "There's no gamma rays. It's just like the suit and the gas, so in that sense, it really appealed to me in terms that we could do something high-concept, really visual, cross-genre, sort of an action and special effects bonanza, but funny as well."
This is not the first time Wilson will be starring in a comic book movie. The actor donned his first cape in 2009's adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel Watchmen.
Ant Man is scheduled for release in July 2015.
