Apple has recently seeded the first beta of OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan to public beta testers. The roll out came just a few days after the beta was made available to Apple developers. Public testers, on the other hand, have exactly a week to test the beta before the latest Macintosh operating system becomes available to the public.

According to Apple Insider, the OS X 10.11.1 beta can now be downloaded by members of Apple's public beta program through the "Software Update" tool.

Non-members who want to test the latest OS X and iOS operating system can still do so by signing up on Apple's official website.

Upon its release, El Capitan will present Mac users with improved overall system stability as well as various visual and performance enhancements, but more on the latter than the former.

El Capitan will carry over a majority of Yosemite's overall style but will implement a new system font called "San Francisco," Mac Rumors reported.

"Mission Control," OS X's window management tool, has also been given its fair share of refinements. In El Capitan, Mac users need only to swipe their four fingers upward to enable the "Mission Control" panel. The new panel displays app windows relative to their position on the desktop screen.

Moreover, El Capitan will debut the "Split View" feature, reminiscent of the iOS 9 multitasking tool on the iPad, which lets users view two full-screen apps simultaneously.

Other novelties include a "Pinned Sites" feature on Safari. As its name implies, the tool lets Mac users pin favorite websites on Safari's tab bar.

Speaking of Safari, the browser also has a new mute button that will mute all sounds coming from the browser. What's more interesting, the mute feature can identify certain tabs playing audio.

The "Spotlight" search is more powerful this time around since El Capitan will upgrade the search tool with more sources, more support for natural language, and deeper overall functionality.

The new OS X will bring more support for third-party photo editing extensions. Furthermore, the "Notes" app will feature a new Attachments Browser and support for checklists.

El Capitan also supports Metal, Apple's graphics application programming interface (API). The support for Metal means Mac devices running on El Capitan will have improved graphics performance, this in turn translates to smoother and faster rendering of standard apps, pro apps, and games.  

Last but not the least, El Capitan will introduce more than 250 new emoji such as a taco, burrito, unicorn head and middle finger, as per a previous report from Latin Post.

As for the latest Mac operating system, OS X El Capitan will be available to the public starting on Sept. 30.
