'The Blacklist' Season 3 Spoilers: Paul Reubens to Play Villain
When “The Blacklist” returns to NBC, Liz (Megan Boone) and Red (James Spader) will be on the run.
As reported in Spoilers Guide, Episode 1 of Season 3, "The Troll Farmer," has the FBI hunting down Liz for the murder of the attorney general. Red, ever resourceful, will try to get out of the city by reaching out to a Blacklister called "The Troll Farmer."
At the end of last season Jon Bokenkamp, the creator of the series, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the emotional quest that Red and Liz would be heading down in the coming season.
“They're entering the third season as fugitives," said Bokenkamp, who was excited about the direction his show was heading.
"The image of Liz's wanted poster going up next to Reddington's wanted poster is something we've talked about for a long time and one of those signpost moments in the series that we knew we wanted to hit."
As her character goes into darker and more desperate places, Boone remains tight-lipped about what is happening on the show. Recently when "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon asked Boone about what fans could expect the actress feigned a coughing fit before drawing attention to a work-related scratch on her hand and then finally saying that Paul Reubens (of Pee-wee Herman fame) would be coming on to play villain.
“Let me paint a picture for you: Paul Reubens . . . James Spader,” she said then laughed and let the issue drop before moving on to a clip.
She talked a bit more to Entertainment Tonight about the seriousness of the coming season, saying, “What I’m discovering is that while it’s really entertaining and Red is still this very colorful character, we’re not taking this [situation] very lightly.”
Boone goes on describe how different things will now be for her character.
“Liz being on the run from the same task force that she worked with for two years now is a very interesting dynamic because they all love one another, but the duty of the task force is find the fugitive -- and this terrorist: Elizabeth Keen.”
The season premiere of “The Blacklist” airs Oct. 1 on NBC.
