Apple consumers are in for another iPhone accessory upgrade after the company expressed their desire to revise their headphone jack.

In a TechRadar report, Apple has already applied for a patent on their headphone jack that is now specifically called the "D Jack." The "D Jack" will measure around 2 millimeters, a lot smaller than the previous version which measures around 3.5 millimeters. The new headphone jack will also require a special headphone connector, eliminating the use of standard headphones for iPhone. The new feature is slated to appear on Apple's next flagship phone, the iPhone 7.

The new headphone jack for iPhone leaves its consumers few options on how to deal with the upgrade. In fact, it may also mean disposing your current headphones and purchasing something that will match the new device.

TechRadar, on the other hand, suggests that consumers can use a certain adaptor that will eventually allow them to use their old headphones. Just like the recently integrated lightning adaptor, the new headphone jack may provide a similar nuisance.

Not only will consumers feel the need to upgrade their accessories, but it's also a sign that even the latest line of smartphones from Apple are becoming old and a thing of the past. Take note that those who use a Bluetooth earpiece may not be affected by the upgrade. Still, the conventional way of hearing things using headphones is still a trend and a necessity for the consumers.

In a Twitter post by Pocketnow (@pocketnow), it shows a diagram that states the design of the headphone jack and is accompanied along by a tweet saying "Apple's got a patent for a new super slim headphone jack - that won't fit your existing gear."

The new and thinner headphone jack is another from Apple's quest to initiate, design and manufacture slimmer gadgets and accessories. Apple Insider said that the new accessory has already been patented by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is named the "D Shaped Connector" under Patent No. 9,142,925. The thinner accessory is just one of the many Apple accessories that are bound for a huge update.
