The open source firmware Cyanogen has recently announced that they will be adapting midrange phones starting out with models like Moto E and Moto G (3rd Gen). 

According to PhoneArena, the two Motorola handsets will both feature the Cyanogen Mod 12 in their respective systems. Huawei, on the other hand, took Cyanogen's Mod 7 when it was first introduced, primarily integrating the firmware to Huawei SnapTo, Huawei Honor 4 and Huawei Ascend Mate. 

While Cyanogen continues to expand their sources, LG 4, Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 remains subdued, something that the company is still working on getting aboard.

Android users may want to know whether their current handsets can support a Cyanogen firmware, a list of handsets can also be found here. 

Some of the more prominent handsets included were not only mobile phones but also tablets that are supported by Android. The Amazon Kindle Fire (1st and 2nd generations) were also listed as Cyanogen's platform. 

For the mobile phones, midrange handset such as Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10, Hewlett-Packard Touchpad and HTC Amaze 3G were also included in the lineup.

Cyanogen is known for their overly enhanced distribution and application of open source firmware to gadgets supported by Android. Handset and tablet computer users are their main customers. Their firmware is highly regarded because of their ability to introduce more options on the operating system, something that is not readily available on most official websites of these smartphones.  

The CyanogenMod is an operating system similar to that of Windows, OS X and Linux. The open source concept of Cyanogen allows its consumers to know everything about the codes they're trying to integrate, from bug fixes to the latest mode of updating a system.

The idea of getting a CyanogenMod is to be able to allow a user of an old handset to upgrade the phone system. Companies who continue to release the latest of their flagship phones have at least started from something that is now relatively old and is not getting the right updates if none at all. 

This is where CyanogenMod comes in. Its OS will enable the phone to get the highest possible upgrade for a specific handset and readily makes it more functional than it was previously. CyanogenMod allows you to permanently remove unused programs, a chance to access the latest from the Android OS, and, last but not the least, a security update that services your phone regularly.
