‘Batman v. Superman’ News: Director Zack Snyder Says Film Really ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel
The question of will or when a "Man of Steel 2" film will be released has been sort of answered by the director for "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," Zack Snyder. He let it slip that the upcoming prequel to the "Justice League" DC Cinematic Universe films is in fact a sequel to his 2013 hit "Man of Steel."
When Snyder sat down for an interview with Canoe, he was actually there to promote his "Crash the Super Bowl" competition, which is in its 10th year. (The competition is basically a way for aspiring filmmakers to get their foot in the door within the superhero cinematic universe by making a Doritos Super Bowl commercial.) But the interview for the contest had a segue of sorts, eventually revealing some major details for fans of the everlasting "Superman" franchise.
Near the end of the interview, Snyder was asked about the potential for a "Man of Steel 2" standalone film for the character and the franchise. But Snyder gave up a little more information than that.
"I think in a way 'Batman v Superman' is 'Man of Steel 2,'" Snyder said.
"'Justice League' is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It'd be interesting to think about what a standalone 'Superman' movie might be."
This could be indicative the "Man of Steel" sequel is not the highest priority for Snyder and his DC crew right now, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Over the next five years, there are several standalone films scheduled for the DC Cinematic Universe. Those include "Wonder Woman," "Aquaman," "The Flash" and "Green Lantern."
Forbes reports there could also be a "Batman" standalone in the mix yet to be announced.
