Twitch Plays Pokémon Live Stream Update: Highlights Vs. Champion Blue as Johto Region Adventure Arrives [Video]
Twitch Plays Pokémon has concluded, but a new adventure waits in the Johto region.
After 16 days, gamers -- in their thousands -- have finally defeated the Kanto's Elite Four and Champion Blue to conclude the Pokémon Red Version game originally for the Game Boy handset. The final battle (see video below) saw Red's team consisting of Lapras, Nidoking, Pidgeot, Omastar, Venonat, and Zapdos provided as much drama and suspense as fans would've anticipated.
Overall, it took gamers 22 attempts to get to Blue. With first Elite Four member Lorelei, gamers encountered 18 wins but four losses. Bruno was next, but gamers were more prepared with their 14 wins to four losses. Agatha proved to be tough with only four wins but 10 losses. Dragon trainer Lance, last of the Elite Four, won and lost twice.
For the thousands of viewers watching the final match, it only took two battles to defeat Blue with a Thundershock by Zapdos to Blastoise to land Red to the Hall of Fame.
"[Twitch Plays Pokémon] was created as an experiment to test the viability of this format, the way people interact with the input system and the way they interact socially with each other," noted the Twitch Plays Pokémon's creator, which has garnered over 36 million viewers during the 16 days of gameplay.

What can fans anticipate with the second generation?
The second generation games, which included Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal Versions, which totaled 23 million units sold by 2010, will introduce the gamer to "Gold" as he journeys the Johto region, which is located to the left of Kanto.
As most fans might remember, the Johto region introduced 100 new species of Pokémon as well as the insertion of Dark and Steel types. Gamers will also recall the frustration of Gym Leader Whitney of Goldenrod City and her Normal-type Pokémon, notably Miltank. With the second generation games, Gold will encounter the first instance of roaming Pokémon, with the form of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.
Elements of the first generation will be present such as the return of Team Rocket and the eight gym leaders in Kanto. Time will tell if the Twitch Plays Pokémon gamers will encounter the same troubles as Sabrina and the region's new eighth gym leader, Blue. Mt. Silver also awaits a familiar foe that gamers familiarize during the last 16 days.
Original Pokémon Gold and Silver Versions Trailer:
While it appears the first generation will not continue its adventure, which would have included the possible capture of Mewtwo, the second-generation games, whether its Gold Version or Silver Version, is guaranteed to provide as many twist, turns, frustrations, and new memes as the first.
