Nicki Minaj got candid during an interview about her relationship with Meek Mill. The "Bang Bang" singer revealed how her mother had reacted after learning about her relationship with the hip hop artist.

During her cover interview for GQ magazine, the 32-year-old revealed how everyone in her family, even friends, reacted to her relationship with Meek Mill, born Robert Rihmeek Williams. Nicki said her mother was especially concerned since she barely knows the rapper.

"My mother only knows Meek from what she sees in public, in the media. She met him now, but she just wants to make sure he's a nice guy. She's overprotective of her daughter," she said.

Minaj revealed that it took a lot of convincing to eventually get everyone on board with her new relationship. She told the publication that even her pastor, who she considered as a second mother, was scared for her.

"Everybody was just scared. Those women were scared for me because when I love someone I really let them in, and I really let my guard down. And I think it's only natural for a mother to just, you know, she just wanted to make sure I wasn't rushing into anything," she said during her GQ interview for its October issue.

The 32-year-old also talked about her past relationships, saying that she's actually inexperienced when it comes to love, since she's only had three boyfriends. That's why her mother was really doubtful of Meek Mill since she barely knows him.

According to E! News, Minaj previously dated Safaree Samuels for 15 years. She reportedly referenced her relationship with Samuels when she told GQ that her family was surprised with her new relationship since "they've only known one thing for over a decade."

In the same interview, Nicki talked about how he and Meek Mill were friends first before they finally started dating. It reportedly took him around a year to court the "Anaconda" singer.

Minaj also got candid about her relationship, saying that they too have normal relationships like other people. The only thing that would reportedly make it un-normal is their status, since they are both successful in their careers. Other than that, they go through the same relationship problems as everyone and enjoy the same things like kissing. Nicki admitted that it's her "favorite thing about Meek."

"I love kissing him. I love the way his lips feel," Nicki told GQ.
