Sprint Counters T-Mobile With $1 per Month iPhone 6s Plan
Sprint will not let T-Mobile beat them in the pricing war for the new iPhone 6s, announcing a $1 per month installment plan.
On Wednesday, T-Mobile announced a $5 per month leasing plan for the iPhone 6s, but Sprint quickly countered with a cheaper offer, Market Watch reports.
Customers will have to trade in an iPhone 6 and sign up for the iPhone Forever plan through Sprint in order to get the special pricing. The $1 per month iPhone 6s will be a 16GB model. Upgrading to the 64GB iPhone 6s will cost $5.77 per month and the 128GB model will cost $10.53 per month.
The large-screened iPhone 6s Plus will be offered at $5 per month for the 16GB model, $9.77 for the 64GB model and $14.53 for the 128GB model.
The iPhone Forever plan from Sprint allows customers to upgrade to the newest iPhone when it comes out. That means customers get a new iPhone every year simply by paying a monthly charge.
T-Mobile has called their $5 per month iPhone 6s plan "unmatched in the industry." It only took Sprint one day to not only match the deal, but beat it.
Sprint's deal will require customers to trade in either an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in order to get the price down to $1 per month. T-Mobile's original iPhone plan was $20 per month and gets cheaper with device trade-ins. An old iPhone 5 brings the cost down to $15 per month, while an iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Note Edge brings the price down to $10. Only trading in an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus will bring T-Mobile's iPhone 6s plan down to $5 per month, according to a press release from the company.
"Once again, it is clear that the best place to get the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is Sprint," Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said in a statement. "New and existing customers who trade in their current iPhone 6 can now get a device for only $1/month, making it the best way to get the iPhone -- and a yearly upgrade is included in this charge."
Customers need to remember that 16GB of storage in a smartphone is considered a small amount these days, and they may want to opt for the 64GB version to ensure they can store all of their photos, music and videos without running out of space. Sprint's deal will run through Dec. 31.
