Star Wars Episode 7 Movie and Cast News: 'Girls' Actor Adam Driver Joining Star Wars Cast, Sources Say
It's been confirmed: Adam Driver, the breakout star of the HBO hit Girls, has been cast in a role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7 film... or has he?
The New York Daily News is reporting that Girls creator -- and Driver's co-star -- Lena Dunham dropped the hints about Driver's casting on her Twitter page a few days ago. "We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?" she wrote.
Needless to say, the Internet went all abuzz ("atwitter"?) when Lena dropped that bit of news, leading to such headlines as "Darth Driver!" and causing speculation about what, exactly, Driver was cast for in the film.
This, of course, didn't sit well with the Powers that Be in charge of Episode VII, especially JJ Abrams, who -- despite his claims to the contrary -- is being notoriously secretive about the highly-anticipated film, which is set to drop next year.
As an end result, Lena went back on her Twitter a few hours later to clear up any speculation: "I confirm nothing bc I know nothing bc I'm on a plane with my dad! I just like Adam more than almost anyone, and JJ Abrams a whole lot too," she wrote.
According to Entertainment Weekly, however, those who know the actor well have confirmed "privately" that he's set for a role in the film, though it's unclear what role he'll be playing. The biggest stumbling block in Driver's casting has to do with his demanding schedule for Girls and the variety of films he's currently filming. Amongst the projects he's attached to: While You Were Young (co-starring Ben Stiller and Amanda Seyfried), Midnight Run (co-starring Star Wars alumnus Joel Edgerton, who played a young Owen Lars in Episodes II and III), and This is Where I Leave You (co-starring Tina Fey and Jason Bateman).
