'House of Cards' News & Updates: Delay Rumor Worries, Splits Fans Online
"House of Cards" fans were having a Frank Underwood-worthy online battle this week over whether the fourth season of the Netflix hit was suffering from production delays.
But the streaming service so far has been mum on the issue, and some commentators attribute the worries to viewers' anxiousness amid sparse news about the show's progress.
The virtual rumor mill seems to have started with a Christian Today report that claimed that "there's a possibility that season 4 will be delayed to a March 2016 release" without citing specific sources. The first three "House of Cards" seasons were released in February of 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively.
"A potentially longer wait for fans ... has not been confirmed," the website reported, "and nothing about the show's release date has been formally announced. Who knows, maybe the show would even get an earlier release date," Christian Today added.
The best fans can do is be patient and await Netflix's announcement for the official release date of the show, according to Realty Today. That is particularly true because the rumors about a delay do not "have much of a basis," iDigitalTimes reported.
The predictions are not "based on any actual evidence regarding the production process of this season or statements from the cast, production company, or network," the website argued, recommending viewers give them "no credence at all."
But no matter if Underwood (Kevin Spacey) returns to TV screens in January, February or March, fans still have a number of months to go before they can indulge in a new "House of Cards" binge -- and many of them seem to bridge the time by speculating about just what may happen next on the show, Christian Today noted.
Recalling the third season's cliffhanger that had Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) walking out of husband's life, the website wondered whether the power couple may be turned into rivals in the upcoming installment.
"Claire is also said to move forward and pursue her quest for power," Christian Today said. In fact, the first lady may even run for president herself, the site speculated.
