Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Victor Valdes To Sign With Chelsea, Liverpool?
Two of Manchester United's bitter rivals are more than eager to relieve Victor Valdes from his Old Trafford woes.
According to ESPN FC, Chelsea and Liverpool are closely monitoring the estranged goalkeeper's stint with the Red Devils. Both squads are looking to widen their goalkeeping options and are considering Valdes as a viable signing.
The 33-year-old Spaniard has been relegated to the bench at Man-U following a prior dispute with Louis van Gaal. The fallout began earlier in the summer when van Gaal cited Valdes' refusal to play in an under-21's match, which is the reason behind the goalkeeper's omission from the team.
The 64-year-old Dutch manager added that Valdes did not fit in with Man-U's philosophy, Manchester Evening News reported.
"He is not selected because he doesn't follow our philosophy and there is no place for someone like that. Philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm... When you are not willing to follow the principles of the philosophy, there is only one way and that is out," he said.
Valdes responded to the Dutchman's comments by tweeting out pictures of the games he had played with the under-21 squad since signing with Man-U in January. The Spanish international also hinted that he was shown a lack of respect by van Gaal.
Since then, van Gaal has been staunched about having no future plans for Valdes at Old Trafford. The Dutch manager even mentioned that the club is currently entertaining potential buyers for the former Barcelona star.
This is where Chelsea comes in the picture. The reigning English Premier League Champions are rumored to be interested in Valdes due to the shortage of goalkeepers in their stable.
Currently, the Blues have Asmir Begovic joining the first-team in place of the injured Thibaut Courtois. With no backup goalie in sight, Jose Mourinho could face a serious goalkeeping crisis if Begovic incurs an injury and joins Courtois on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's Simon Mignolet has been receiving flak for his mistake in the 1-1 draw with Norwich last weekend, which has compelled the Anfield squad to target Valdes as Mignolet's replacement.
As for Valdes, his ordeal at Old Trafford will not be for long as he only has less than a year left on his Man-U contract. The former Barcelona star has not been handed a squad number for this season. His name was included in Man-U's roster only to conform to Premier League rules on team quotas.
