Toronto Crack Mayor Rob Ford Appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live
Who would have thought that a mayor from Toronto would become such a stateside sensation? Such is the beauty of the Internet... thanks to some great YouTube videos, controversial Toronto mayor Rob Ford has become a sensation in the United States, and yesterday he went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss that... and many other topics!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, even though the mayor is looked upon as a "disgrace," Kimmel was determined to have him on the show. Monday night, he finally got his wish! And, the minute Ford sat down, Kimmel gave him no quarter: "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you are here, but why are you here? What good could come of this? Have you ever seen this show?"
And thus, the tone of the interview was set -- Kimmel fired off a series of questions, ranging from drugs and alcohol (including that infamous video of Ford reportedly smoking crack-cocaine), to going down on his wife (as every other red-blooded male should be doing), to speaking "Jamaican" in a viral YouTube video, to the most recent incident featuring Ford as a "DJ" and "rapper."
Interestingly, not one question from Kimmel revolved around the governance of the Canadian provence. (And why would it, really...)
According to The National Post, however, the interview wasn't all fun and games: at the end of the interview, Kimmel urged the mayor to consider the possibility that he just might have a problem. "You seem like a very nice guy to me, and if you are an alcoholic which-listen-if you're drinking enough that you can try crack in your 40s and you don't remember it, maybe that's something that you might want to think about," he said.
Ford's reply was just as earnest: "I wasn't elected to be perfect, Jimmy, I was elected to clean up the mess I inherited," he said.
