Ed Sheeran & Beyonce 'Drunk in Love' Duet: 'Thinking Out Loud' Singer Intimidated by Jay-Z During Performance?
Looks like Jay-Z, one of the most financially successful hip-hop contemporaries, has got another man to add in his list of people who is intimidated by him.
"Thinking Out Loud" singer Ed Sheeran just confessed that he felt a little awkward while performing with the Queen Bey at the Global Citizen Festival 2015 in Central Park last Saturday, a report by Just Jared says.
In a behind-the-mic interview on The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Shot at Z100 Studios on Monday, the Duran asked how the act went by and Sheeran said it was fine, except that he had been quite overwhelmed with the fact that Beyonce's husband, Jay-Z, was right across the audience while he sang with Bey, Just Jared reports.
The duet sounded very serenading as the two sang Beyonce's "Drunk in Love", a song that Sheeran covered last year and instantly became a favorite. The set was said to be empowering as well, all the more when Sheeran closed his eyes most of the time during the stint, giving an impression that it was a heart-felt performance.
However, the redhead confessed his secret as to why he chose to not to make intensive eye contact with Beyonce and instead gave a soulful performance.
"It was cool! I had a conversation with her after it and I was like, 'I hope you weren't offended!' because she was like looking at me, but I had my eyes closed the whole time and I was like, 'I hope you weren't offended that I didn't want to make eye contact during that song," Sheeran told Duran.
"Drunk in Love" was originally sung by Beyonce and her husband, Jay-Z, himself. In its music video, the couple looked very hot and fiery on a beach. The husband-and-wife music collaboration was released in 2013.
"Well Jay [Z] was standing on the side of the stage, and the song is quite open and I just don't want to make eye contact with someone's wife when I'm singing lyrics like that." Sheeran added.
Beyonce and Jay-Z are yet to make a statement about Sheeran's impression of Mr. Carter.
According to US Weekly, this is not the first time the redhead Brit and Queen Bey performed together. The two had the chance to share a medley of Stevie Wonders' songs back in February.
Meanwhile, during the performance, Beyonce grabbed the chance to thank her fans and for the opportunity to perform with other brilliant artists.
"I feel so honored to be on the stage. So many brilliant, generous people out there. All my Global Citizens," Bey told the audience, another Just Jared report says.
