'Burnout HD' for PS4, Xbox One Coming? Criterion Games Denies Rumors
With so many video game titles out and upcoming, it's hard to believe a bulk of the players want even more. The fans of hit racing franchise "Burnout" certainly want more of the beloved series, but Criterion Games quickly shot down the rumors that have been surfacing about the game's revival.
When Nintendo's Twitter account announced the release of "Burnout Paradise U" in 2016, Criterion Games jumped in the conversation to dash the hopes of those who might have spotted the tweet, saying, "No it's not."
A fan responded to ask about the possibility of a "Burnout Collection" HD for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but the developer wasted no time in denying the rumor. "Hah! You're not the first with that one," the developer answered the fan on Twitter. "Nice idea but it's still not true."
To further emphasize the unlikelihood of the rumor being true, Criterion Games added, "We've moved on to newer, even better things!"
While the acclaimed developer might have moved on from this series, it's clear the fanbase has not. The last game of the franchise "Burnout Paradise" was released back in 2008, yet people are still clamoring for a new one after its cancelation.
Despite the demise of the "Burnout" games, players can still get their fill of top-of-the-line racing action with EA's "Need for Speed," which Criterion Games is also developing. The developer has also announced plans to launch a new game soon that seems to be in the same vein of extreme action as "Burnout."
According to Game Rant, the plans were revealed during E3 2014 when the untitled game was touched on by Criterion Games as "a massive next-gen open world throwing cars, boats, offroad vehicles and aircraft into one massive destruction derby."
Last June, long-time Criterion producer Pete Lake teased a new project in an interview with the official website of the developer.
He said, "Well, I've been working on a couple of super-secret things that I can't talk about yet," he said. "But we'll have something amazing to reveal soon!"
Hopefully, the loyal fans of the "Burnout" series can get their fix soon with a good title from Criterion Games. If not, there are plenty of upcoming franchises that look to fill the void.
"Burnout" alum Alex Ward reached out to the series' players of the past game in Twitter, saying, "Another NeoGaf thread where folks are asking for another 'Burnout' type game. The best things come to those who wait."
In another tweet, Ward explained that Three Fields Entertainment will be starting to create a racing title "soon".
