'Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3' Release Date: New CoD's Promotional Campaign Alarms Netizens
"Call of Duty: Black Ops III" went overboard when it kick-started its campaign with rather hasty and alarming tweets.
According to Digital Spy, yesterday's tweets from the game's Twitter page have been all about an alleged military rebellion in Singapore. The Twitter feeds have been so chronologically posted that it looked like they were real news, instead of fake instances meant for the beloved game's campaign and advertising.
One of their posts, which is basically the start of the malicious campaign, said, "UPDATE: Singapore Authorities have officially announced a state of emergency and declared martial law." The announcement was catchy that even non-players would read twice before realizing it's all for the sake of advertisement.
Digital Spy also indicated that at the time the Twitter posts were launched, the official page also changed their name to "Current Events Agg" instead of the normal "Call of Duty" brand. They also managed to create a fake character under the name James Chung and introduced as the Commander of the Singapore Armed Forces.
Alarming as it may seem, the said tweets were fake, but not fake enough to invite comments from alarmed followers. One comment that came from a reader by the handle @athenahollow said, "COD's latest social media campaign is dangerous and is gonna cause panic. What idiot thought this is a good idea?"
Another twitter post came from @Xodious said, "Was reading about some kind of explosion in Singapore and was deeply concerned until I realized that the tweets were from call of duty."
The misleading tweets from "Call of Duty" were made to be attract attention, and they are bound to be notified about it sooner or later. Meanwhile, according to Tech Times, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will not be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as Beenox and Mercenary Technology consider having them on disc for the said consoles.
In a statement given by Activision, the company said, "We know that there are still fans waiting to make the switch to the newest console hardware and developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the Black Ops 3 gameplay as much as possible to the Play Station 3 and Xbox 360."
Until then, players of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however, may still enjoy the all-new Zombies mode titled "Shadows of Evil."
