Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here. The grand prize is currently at $301 million, with a cash value of $191.4 million.

Last Sunday’s winning numbers were 23, 31, 42, 50, 57 and 5. There were 1,050,471 regular winners, and $15,092,937 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Though the rules will change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.

When the rules do change in a few days, it will be easier for the average player to win an average prize, but harder to score the big money. So after Saturday, the chances of winning any prize will go from 1 in 32 to 1 in 25, but the chances of winning the jackpot will go to 1 in 292 million.

As Forbes reports, the planned changes to the odds are an attempt by state lottery officials to increase interest in the games.  According to USA Today, a memo from the state Gaming Commission bluntly informed its board members, "The rules change is intended to increase the odds of winning any prize, while making it more difficult to win the jackpot prize."

Furthermore, the memo continued, "Without these rules changes, the [Lottery] Division would need to remove the Powerball game from its portfolio of offerings and aid to education would be negatively affected."

As a Virginia Beach ABC News affiliate reports, a Powerball ticket worth $2 million was claimed on Monday by a man named Michael Alston.

Alston, who said he has no immediate plans for his newfound fortune, does not think the win will change him.

“I’ll be who I’ve always been,” the new millionaire said.
