'Heroes Reborn' News Update: Enigma Mobile Game Coming in October
Heroes Reborn: Enigma, a puzzle game based on the NBC series, will be released on mobile devices next week.
Tech Times reports that the mobile tie-in game will be released on iOS and Android devices for fans of the NBC series "Heroes Reborn." The first-person puzzle game will feature new character Dahlia, an EVO (evolved human), who has been taken prisoner in a mysterious government facility known as The Quarry.
The game's unique plot was penned by series director Tim Kring, and is said to directly tie in with the events of "Heroes Reborn."
"When I created 'Heroes,' I always envisioned it as an expansive universe with characters and stories that would extend far beyond the reaches of just a TV show," Kring said in a press release. "Heroes Reborn: Enigma dives deeper into the world with a groundbreaking form of storytelling and gameplay unlike anything released before on mobile and tablet."
The game will challenge players to use a variety of powers, such as time-shifting and levitation, to complete over 30 levels of brain-teasing obstacles.
Heroes Reborn: Enigma is not just aimed at fans of the show. Developer Imperative Games notes that it's not necessary to watch the series to follow the game's plot.
"While the game extends the storyline from the 'Heroes Reborn' television series and unfolds an entirely new plot to enhance viewers' experiences, the game is also designed as a self-contained experience for those who have not seen the series," Imperative Games said in a statement.
Enigma is not the only "Heroes Reborn" game planned. Imperative is also working on a PC and console title, called Heroes Reborn: Gemini, which is set for release this winter.
NBC also partnered with V Squared Labs to develop a virtual reality tie-in that was showcased at San Diego Comic Con in July.
"I feel like augmented reality is where it's all heading," Kring told Fortune. "Virtual reality seems like the stepping stone to augmented reality. VR is where we are now, but the augmented reality experience-especially the one that we had at Comic Con-is the future."
Heroes Reborn: Enigma will launch on Oct. 8. You can catch "Heroes Reborn" on NBC on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
