'The Leftovers' Season 2 Premiere Spoilers: Move From Mapelton, New York To Miracle, Texas
HBO's "The Leftovers" will be coming back this Sunday and questions are already being brought up.
In Season 2, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) is moving to the town of Miracle, Texas. Miracle is the only town on Earth that doesn't have any departures. Coming with Garvey is Nora Durst (Carrie Coon,) who established a romantic relationship with Garvey. The two begins a new life in Miracle but things aren't perfect.
According to CarterMatt, the synopsis for the episode titled "Axis Mundi" is below. For those who don't know what Axis Mundi is, it is a reference to the center of the universe. It gives us a pretty good idea on what to expect in the season premiere.
"Jarden, Texas was renamed 'Miracle' after it was discovered that no one had departed. The town has since become a magnet for tourists and people who are convinced it is special and can keep them safe. Among the local families is the Murphys: the father, John (Kevin Carroll), the mother, Erika (Regina King), and their twins, Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Michael (Jovan Adepo). While trying to protect his town from frauds and charlatans, John gets an ominous warning from a man who claims to have psychic powers. Soon afterwards, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) and Jill Garvey (Margaret Qualley) show up in Miracle. This newly formed 'family' left Mapleton to start over, but Kevin cannot seem to escape his past. The Murphy family and Kevin subsequently experience a mysterious event that will that change their lives forever."
Who is this mysterious family that Garvey and Durst will hang around with? Why wasn't anyone from Miracle was "departed"? In a show full of questions, we are certain that we will not get any answers.
As for the people that departed, did they go to heaven? Are they stuck in purgatory? According to The Verge, show creator Damon Lindelof clearly stated that we will never know the answer.
