HBO and Zack Snyder Possibly Teaming up for ‘Watchmen’ TV Series
There have been reports that "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder has been taking meetings with HBO in regards to a TV adaptation of his 2009 hit film "Watchmen."
Collider reports that a "Watchmen" series is potentially the best bet for the network and for Snyder, who helmed the original film version to loads of critical praise, but not a lot of box office success. The website was also the first to report on the meetings taking place between Snyder and the network.
At this stage, it would be too early to say for sure that the show is a go for the network, but it is definitely in development by Snyder, who is currently hard at work within the DC Cinematic Universe.
When the show does get the green light, there is also a production schedule to consider for Snyder and his team. The DC Entertainment Universe is filling up quickly and there is so much on the plate for the brand that the series itself could still be years away from production.
The series seems like the right move for HBO, given that their current hit series "Game of Thrones" is embarking upon its final seasons.
There is quite a lot of material to work with for the "Watchmen" series. So much so that it makes better sense to adapt as a TV series than as movie. Although Snyder did a fantastic job handling the film, there was a lot of material to content with and it was hard for him to squeeze in the full essence of the original comic series.
There is also the "Before Watchmen" comic series to contend with as well. This prequel material is something that the series could feature for the network, but there have been no reports as to what approach Snyder wants to take with the project yet.
It is also worth mentioning that HBO is notoriously tight-lipped about the details of any of their shows until they announce a release date.
