'Mass Effect 4' Release Date & Gameplay: 'Andromeda' Looking Better Than Ever, Commander Shepard To Return?
The "Mass Effect" games have given fans a great deal of exploration, gun-play and decision-making. The launch of "Mass Effect 3" in March 2012 marked the end of the Commander Shepard saga, which had fans speculating whether or not BioWare was going to develop another sequel to its smash hit third-person shooter role-playing game.
Three years after the gaming studio's last "Mass Effect" title, BioWare announced "Mass Effect: Andromeda" three months ago at E3 2015 in Los Angeles, Cal. A cinematic teaser of the game was also shown at the event.
"When we wrapped up the original Mass Effect trilogy with Mass Effect 3: Citadel in early 2013, planning and design on Mass Effect: Andromeda was already well underway. We knew we wanted to start with a foundation composed of the best parts of any Mass Effect game: exciting new worlds to discover, great characters, and intense action. At the same time, we clearly wanted to expand the definition of what you should expect from a Mass Effect game," BioWare stated on its official blog site following their E3 2015 announcement.
BioWare's senior director of creative development Allistair McNally then went on Twitter to confirm that "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is the largest game in the series.
McNally did not specify what aspect of the game she was referring to on her tweet. However, the game is expected to be larger in scope than its predecessors as Game Rant previously indicated that "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will have a multiplayer feature.
Now, BioWare has given fans a quick update on how its upcoming space adventure is shaping up.
Chris Wynn, senior development director of the "Mass Effect" series, suggested on his official Twitter account that the game has improved drastically compared to what was showed at E3 2015.
It was Wynn who confirmed in the past that the game will feel like "Mass Effect 3" but will include new elements that will make it "more dynamic."
BioWare has stated that no characters from the "Mass Effect Trilogy" will be featured in "Andromeda." However, fans continue to ask the possibility of playing Commander Shepard once again.
"Will there ever be a return to the commander Shepard story," one fan asked Wynn on Twitter. "Ever? That's impossible to answer," the developer replied.
The upcoming space adventure won't include familiar characters from the prior trilogy. It will instead focus on a new breed of intergalactic heroes.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in fall 2016.
