Cameron Diaz Stars as Miss Hannigan in 'Annie' Remake and 'Bet Your Bottom Dollar' She's Bringing the Sass!
Actress Cameron Diaz, who is known for her infectious laugh, good humor and beauty, is taking on different role as the mean, sarcastic and sassy Miss Hannigan in the latest remake of the American musical-turned-movie, Annie.
The beauty, who is half-Cuban, is putting a new twist on the character, famously played by the legendary actress/comedian Carol Burnett in 1982. Burnett portrayed a drunken, haggard-looking villainous orphanage matron who hates children, but loves her booze.
Also in 1999, another stellar actress, Kathy Bates took on the role of Miss Hannigan in the made-for-TV movie, Annie.
Needless to say Diaz has big shoes to fill, but she's putting her own spin on the character, and her version is anything but haggard looking. She actually sports some "edgy outfits with cut-off shorts, ripped tights, hoop earrings, chain necklaces and fur. Diaz, who just released The Body Book, about a mind and body connection, took to Twitter to share her transformation into Miss Hannigan:
I want you to meet someone. Her name is Ms.Hannigan. She ain't nice and she ain't pretty. #Annie pic.twitter.com/yRATzM6Oai

Diaz plays opposite 10-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis, who plays the title role of Annie. Not only is she adorable, but she was also nominated for an Academy Award for her precocious film debut in 2012's Beasts of the Southern Wild.
While many recall Diaz's terrible karaoke singing in My Best Friend's Wedding alongside Julia Roberts, she will be singing and dancing in the film, which also stars Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale.
Foxx plays Daddy Warbucks, billionaire Benjamin Stacks, and runs into Annie on the streets of Harlem, where he is running for mayor. At first he thinks that taking a foster child under his wing will make him look good but, like the original film, he has a change of heart, of course.
The updated Annie remake was reportedly supposed to star actor Will Smith and his daughter, Willow, but she soon grew up and the role was no longer age-appropriate for her to take it on.
Another minor change to note is that the modern-day version of Annie does have some updates -- like the mentioning of Facebook and George Clooney. Also, when Miss Hannigan yells at the orphans to clean because the city is coming to inspect, they ask "aren't they supposed to give notice?"
The official trailer for Annie which hits theaters on Christmas 2014, was just released.
