Macbook Pro Retina vs. MacBook Air 2014 Specs, Features, Price & Comparison: Does Computer Weight Matter?
The MacBook Pro is slimmer than ever and looks much more like the MacBook Air, so what are the true differences between the two?
There are many differences between the two computers, so be sure not to judge the book by its cover. The MacBook Pro is the higher-end option and boasts a number of impressive features, making it the best option among Apple products, but the MacBook Air is a solid choice for someone who might be on a budget or on the move since it is the lighter computer.
As Dana Wollman noted in a review for Engadget, there are some stark differences between the two as noted by the "Air" in the title.
"[The MacBook Pro] is noticeably heavier at 3.46 pounds, compared with 2.96 for the Air," Wollman said. "Still, it's a clear improvement over last year's model, which weighed 3.57 pounds. All told, the new Pro is light enough that I was easily able to tote it around in my pack for a weekend without any strain. The build quality is also just as sturdy as you'd expect from a Mac. At the same time, it's still noticeably heavier than the Air, both in a backpack and in the hand."
We should expect to see a number of changes and improvements when Apple comes out with new versions of these computers, perhaps most notably being a touch screen. According to a report from Apple Insider, a recent patent indicates that Apple might be looking to experiment with touch screen capabilities on their computers, which would be similar to what we have seen with the ChromeBook.
