'Star Wars Battlefront' Gameplay Trailer: Supremacy, Blast, Cargo, Droid Run Game Modes Revealed [Video]
EA is not done dropping hints on the upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront." As the release date for the beta approaches, more details emerge on the multi-player shooter game including newly revealed modes of play, microtransactions and more insights from behind the scenes.
According to a report from IGN, more modes were revealed during a hands-on run with the open beta including "Supremacy," "Blast," "Cargo, and "Droid Run." The new gameplay modes haven't been announced or confirmed yet, but their presence suggests there are still a few surprises up the developer's sleeve for the much-awaited "Star Wars Battlefront."
Meanwhile, the rest of the gameplay modes have been announced and fans can take a peek at the action with new footage available in a report from GameSpot. The Survival co-op mode on Tattoine pits the Rebels against the Imperials in waves of battle, while the Walker Assault on Hoth offers 40-player battles. Also available is extended footage from the new Drop Zone mode, which sees two eight-player teams race for control of the escape pods dropping in the Sullust planet.
Aside from offering an open beta for everyone who wants to give the game a run, the developers will not be including microtransactions in "Star Wars Battlefront". According to design director Niklas Fegraeus, while in-game currency will be used for credits, the currency will be earned through performance instead of purchase.
"Well the currency system is based on your game performance," he told GameSpot in an interview at the DICE Stockholm. "The credits that you use to buy things in the game are earned. You play the game, complete challenges, and that's how you get credits."
In a separate interview with GameSpot, DICE senior producer Jamie Keen shared more about working with the minds behind "Star Wars" and staying true to the iconic characters of the franchise. While the developer worked closely with Lucasfilm to create a game that's faithful to the franchise, he clarified that some details might be slightly different due to the extended situations offered in the game.
"They're not behaving the way they would in the films," Keen explained. "In the films, obviously everything is very, very controlled. Whereas in a game situation, particularly in the sense of player agency, and particularly for a multiplayer, online mode, a lot of stuff can happen."
He added, "There's some stuff where Lucasfilm has said, 'This character just wouldn't do that.' We have to respect that... At the same time, they're very good about understanding this is a different situation. This is a gameplay situation. While that may not have happened in the films, it still feels like something they would do in that situation."
"Star Wars Battlefront" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC is slated to be released on Nov. 17. The game's open beta will begin on Oct. 8 and will run until Oct. 12.
