Just as promised, Google began the update rollout for its later-year Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus Player.

While the over-the-air (OTA) update does not seem to be live quite yet, Google has posted factory images for those Nexus devices online, so savvy users and developers can manually install, or "flash," the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update onto their devices.

The Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 10, and original Galaxy Nexus are not supported in the update.

At the press event last week unveiling the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones, Google announced that OTA updates would begin rolling out for the younger half of the Nexus family beginning this week, and while those updates don't seem to be rolling out OTA quite yet, expect it to happen soon. Probably within a few hours, in fact. 

And unless you are fine with a complete factory-wipe, clean installation, it's best to be patient and wait for the OTA notification to hit your Nexus device. Android 6.0 Marshmallow promises to bring several security and privacy improvements to Android, along with enhanced AI assistance with Google "Now on Tap" and longer battery life with a new device idling mode called "Doze."
