'The Divergent Series: Allegiant' Update: Allegiant Collector’s Edition Released Ahead of Third Movie
There's still months to go before "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" hits the big screen, but fans can enjoy a special treat in the meantime for their "Divergent" fix. "Allegiant," the third of the Veronica Roth trilogy, has a special collector's edition on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The "Allegiant Collector's Edition" features 48 pages of bonus content that includes deleted scenes and significant excerpts from the journal of Natalie Prior, the mother of Tris and Caleb Prior.
One scene that was scratched in the final cut of the book is called "Strike First, Strike Hard," which is available in a report from Entertainment Weekly.
"It was really difficult to cut this scene from 'Allegiant'," Roth told Entertainment Weekly. "I originally had an entire section where Tris, Tobias, and the others reunite with the rest of Dauntless—a kind of quiet rebellion in which they assert their choice to stay a faction no matter what the factionless say. And this moment that Tris has with Peter was a part of it. It showed some of Peter's vulnerability as well as how much Tris has changed since he first tormented her in this dormitory. She is stronger, now, but harder too; not all of the lessons she has learned are good ones."
Roth continued, "But I cut the Dauntless section because it slowed down the plot when I needed it to speed up, and with it went Tris and Peter."
"Allegiant" is the last book of the Roth trilogy, but its film counterpart is only the third of a four-part big screen adaptation. The last film will be called "The Divergent Series: Ascendant."
In a previous report from MTV News, the new logos of the last two installments were revealed. As an extra film in the original series, "Ascendant" is a mystery to fans of the book and the tagline is even more intriguing: "The End Is Never What You Expect." With the unfortunate end of one of the main characters, this has fuelled speculation that the character's fate might be different in the film series.
Roth did allude to changes in her Tumblr post as she explained the new name of the last film saying, "Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it's really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them. I know changes always make fans of the books– and the author!–nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing."
Franchise stars include Shailene Woodley as Tris, Ansel Elgort as Caleb, Theo James as Four, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Miles Teller as Peter, Jeff Daniels as David, Naomi Watts as Evelyn, Maggie Q as Tori and many more.
"The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is set to be released on Mar. 18, 2016.
