'Cyberpunk 2077' Release Date: CD Projekt Red Talks Download Size, How 'Witcher 3' Affected Game's Development
Very little is known about the upcoming "Cyberpunk 2077" and that's exactly how developer CD Projekt Red likes it. The sci-fi-inspired RPG is said to be the biggest title of the developer yet, but details on the project remain highly under wraps.
CD Projekt Red visual effects artist Jose Teixeira recently spoke up about the upcoming RPG in a report from MCV UK.
"'Cyberpunk' is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before," Teixeira emphasized. "Far, far bigger."
He continued, "We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter."
One of the developer's most well-known game is "The Witcher" series, the third of which was recently released last May to critical acclaim. "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" was a sleeper hit with the biggest game launch in the U.K. of 2015, according to Eurogamer. A review from Forbes called the installment "the best open-world game," and CD Projekt Red made sure to harness the positive features of "The Witcher" experience for their upcoming RPG.
"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us," Teixeira stated. "We really didn't know what was going to happen. If anything, working on 'The Witcher 3' was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it."
With the much bigger "Cyberpunk 2077," the developer wants to make sure the experience is much better as well. According to Texeira, the team is working hard to deliver something special.
He explained, "I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go 'I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better.'"
While the developers initially stated that they won't be discussing the new venture before 2017, a trailer has been released, offering a peek at what "Cyberpunk 2077" will be about. In a report from IGN, CD Projekt's Co-Founder and Joint CEO Marcin Iwinski said that the team wanted to gauge the audience's reception to the game.
"The response has been incredible," Iwinski said. "Now it's just up to us to deliver."
"Cyberpunk 2077" will be developed for PlayStation, Xbox One and PC, but the launch date has not been confirmed.
Fans should not expect the team behind the game to divulge anything specific anytime soon. Texeira remained tight-lipped about the premiere date joking, "The name of the game is 'Cyberpunk 2077,' and we usually say the release date is 2077."
