Nina Dobrev Talks 'The Final Girls' and Scaring Her Horror Castmates [Watch]
In a recent interview, actress Nina Dobrev discussed her upcoming film "The Final Girls" and explained why she loves scaring her castmates.
Dobrev explained how she loved to scare her costars, particularly actor Alexander Ludwig, who was constantly the victim of what she called the "scare series." According to Entertainment Weekly, the star admitted she finds joy in "other people's fear and discomfort."
"I think [Ludwig] was the first victim," the actress said. "Basically, any opportunity I had to hide behind any wall or in a dark corner, behind a curtain, I took it, and I would scare him. It was especially funny with him because he's a big guy -- he's a man -- and when he screams, he's a little girl. And it just made me so happy."
Dobrev may play a character in a scary movie and even take pleasure in scaring others, but she said she doesn't like to be scared herself.
The actress also revealed how she got involved in the film between shoots for "The Vampire Diaries."
Her interest in the project grew after she watched several short films by the director of "The Final Girls," Todd Strauss-Schulson. Dobrev watched the short films before reading the script for "The Final Girls" so that she wouldn't get confused by the director's unique style, which she described as very complex and difficult to portray on paper.
In "The Final Girls," Dobrev plays the role of Vicki, one of the characters who gets stuck in a horror film within the film. The role is one unlike any other Dobrev has ever played because her character is a mean girl.
However, the 26-year-old star argued that Vicki isn't your typical mean girl.
"It's a stereotypical mean girl with heart, with an explanation for why she's mean," the actress said. "You love to hate her and then you ultimately love her. I think that she's not really mean. I just think that she's honest and blunt and she doesn't have a censor."
Next up for Dobrev will be working on the film "Arrivals," along with Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams, reported Deadline.
